Oct 28, 2012: What’s My Claim Worth?

There are a number of factors to consider when evaluating an injury claim, so beware of any stock formula an insurance adjuster may try to persuade you to simply accept.

Factors When Filing a Claim
  • Injuries
  • Medical bills
  • Loss of income
  • Pain and suffering

Your claim’s value depends heavily on the nature of your injuries and what sort of medical challenges and issues doctors anticipate you to encounter in the future. What have you already paid in medical bills? What might you expect to pay in the future? How has your condition impacted your employment and your ability to live your life? What pain, suffering and inconvenience have you experienced due to your injuries?

Evaluating all these factors for a dollar value is difficult. But, don’t let the insurance company “low-ball” you or convince you to simply accept what they offer until you’ve met with an experienced attorney and discussed what would be a fair settlement for your specific situation.
